I teach classes on new economies and capitalism, on AI imaginaries, and on research methods. Since I teach at a design school, lots of students work on projects that involve making things. Here are some of them.
This first project was an interactive game based on Danae Khorasani’s “Fractured Ownership and the Tragedy of the Anticommons in Hawai‘i”.
The students read and analyzed the article and then created this game for us to understand and experience (indirectly) the processes by which native land title is undermined in Hawai’i.
The project is by: Maryam Ashraf, Alara Boluktas, Jia Yu Liu, and Nirjari Upadhyay.
The second project is “Baking a Better Economy“, based on the work of JK Gibson-Graham. It uses the metaphor of sourdough bread to help us understand alternative economies. This project won the Good Interventions 2025 Design Award!!
This project is by: Jun Shin, Nakshi Shah, Vidhi Shah, and Maryam Ashraf.
